Dear Mighty Owls, Parents, and Guardians,
Whooo! Whooo! What will you be reading this summer??
We are so excited to let you know about the summer reading program for Bellevue Middle School. We are letting students select books that they want to read. Research demonstrates that self-selected voluntary reading leads to the greatest gains in reading achievement and other aspects of literacy.
We want this to be an enjoyable summer experience. Turn off the phones, pause Fortnite, Snapchat, and the video games. Spend time escaping with BOOKS! We challenge parents and teachers to read also!!
Here’s how the summer reading program will work:

Here’s how the summer reading program will work:
- Students will read at least 2 books before Aug. 7 (Books must be at appropriate level. No Dr. Seuss!)
- Students must pick a minimum of one activity per column on the choice board. (It does not matter how the activities are divided between the two books as long as students complete at least one activity for each book. Students may choose to do one activity for one of the books and four activities for the second book; or they can choose two for one book and three for the other book. This will make a total of five activities chosen, one from each column.)

Where can students get books?
- Nashville Public Library
- McKay’s Bookstore 636 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37209
- Download books for FREE on Overdrive Media. Anyone with a public library card can access Overdrive Media. Simply download the app and sign in using the public library card number. Students simply use their ID number. Their password is their birthday month and date. Example: July 29 is 0729. Students can access Overdrive on computers too. It’s amazing!!!!!!
